World, formerly known as Worldcoin, has announced the launch of its World ID Orb verifications in Brazil.

According to a Nov. 12 announcement, the expansion of World ID verification to the Latin American country follows initial pop-ups in 2023 as part of the project’s global tour and preview.

With the return, World (WLD) aims to bring digital identity and proof-of-human technology to more people. Access for Brazilians opens on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, as stated in a blog post by World.

The project, co-founded by Sam Altman, has faced several challenges since its debut in July 2023. However, despite legal and regulatory hurdles, it has continued to expand globally.

Re-entering Brazil follows the launch of the devices in other countries, with recent installations in Costa Rica, Poland, and Austria.

According to the project’s website, the World App has now reached over 16 million users, with more than 7.5 million unique human verifications.

Launching in Brazil enables more users to verify their human identity via World ID 3.0, a version that allows for anonymous verification amid growing concerns over AI-generated bots and deep fakes. A recent survey highlighted that most people are increasingly concerned about identity theft.

In addition to verification progress, World’s expansion efforts include the launch of World Chain, a layer-2 network on the Superchain. The World Foundation announced public access to this Ethereum-secured network in October, with partners including Optimism, Uniswap, Alchemy, and Dune.

The layer-2 network has also integrated Across, an interoperability protocol powered by intents, enabling cross-chain transactions and bridging assets such as ETH, wETH, and USDC.
