London-based payments infrastructure firm Mercuryo has integrated its on-ramp services into Wallet, Telegram’s built-in cryptocurrency platform.
The partnership allows Wallet users to buy digital assets like Bitcoin (BTC) and Toncoin (TON) using traditional currencies like the U.S. dollar or euro, crypto.news can exclusively report.
Wallet, a custodial crypto service embedded in Telegram, enables users to send, receive, and store digital assets within the messaging app. The Mercuryo integration is expected to reduce fees and simplify the process of converting fiat currency into crypto, which has been a major barrier for new users.
“Wallet in Telegram currently has a sole on-ramp provider, Mercuryo,” Andrew Rogozov, CEO of The Open Platform, told crypto.news. “We consider more partnerships to expand the list of countries where a zero fee on-ramp is possible. Wallet is now mostly used for instant transfers within Telegram – as easy as sending a message. In its essence, Wallet is an accessible and easy way to send crypto to friends and family, all within Telegram.”
Rogozov added that a significant number of users begin their exposure to cryptocurrency through Telegram.
“Our userbase is now more than 100 million Telegram users, most of them use Wallet as an entry point to the crypto world,” Rogozov said.
On-ramping refers to the process of converting traditional money into cryptocurrency. Many platforms charge high fees for this service, making it expensive for users to get started. By integrating Mercuryo, Wallet aims to provide a more cost-effective solution.
Petr Kozyakov, CEO of Mercuryo, said the collaboration is designed to bring millions of new users into crypto.
“We anticipate a ready uptake among Wallet’s growing user base as it provides a blueprint for how to onboard millions of new users to cryptocurrency services,” Kozyakov stated.
Crypto asset access directly in Telegram
The collaboration supports various digital assets, including Bitcoin, Toncoin, and Jettons—a class of tokens used within Telegram’s ecosystem. Users can access these assets directly through Wallet without needing an external exchange.
Telegram has been expanding its crypto offerings in recent years, with The Open Network blockchain playing a key role in its strategy. Toncoin, the network’s native token, is one of the leading layer-1 blockchain assets supported by Wallet.
The integration aligns with Wallet’s broader goal of making crypto more accessible within Telegram, a platform with over 900 million users.
