Telegram-based clicker game Hamster Kombat announced its airdrop date after multiple delays postponed the event since July.

Hamster Kombat informed its over 52 million Telegram subscribers that the airdrop and token generation event will occur on Sept. 26, following months of anticipation for the distribution. The web3 game boasts more than 50 million users in over 190 countries worldwide and has allocated 60% of HMSTR’s supply to gamers.

Confirmation of the airdrop date came after the team initially planned to reward users in July but backtracked, citing on-chain complexities with disbursing tokens to real users.

The project’s gamified approach spurred massive participation, though there’s a chance some of its users are bots. It remains unknown how many participants are eligible for the airdrop.

Can TON handle Hamster Kombat’s airdrop load?

With the Hamster Kombat airdrop date set, questions arise about how The Open Network (TON) might cope with millions of users claiming tokens.

Per crypto.news, TON halted block production for hours about two days after Dogs (DOGS), another Telegram mini-game, launched its token. DOGS also disrupted Telegram Wallet and several crypto exchange operations. TON developers resolved the issue, but the event suggests a similar network bottleneck may occur.

Telegram mini-apps like Dogs and Hamster Kombat are buoyed by successful predecessors like Notcoin (NOT). The fellow clicker game airdropped $1 billion worth of NOT coins in May, setting the stage for a raft of Telegram-based gaming projects.

The HMSTR team aims to outshine Notcoin’s distribution by delivering “the largest crypto airdrop in history.”
