Various studies confirm a decline in venture capital investments in blockchain projects. According to Block Research, venture capital investments in blockchain infrastructure fell by 68% in 2023. In 2022 the volume of capital investments amounted to $33.3 billion, however, over the past 12 months it has decreased to $10.7 billion.

A research by PitchBook cites even smaller numbers: according to their study, the crypto industry was able to attract a total of only $9.5 billion in 2023, while most of the financing of projects by venture capital companies occurred in the first half of the year, while the fourth quarter of 2023 turned out to be the poorest in terms of attracting venture capital to blockchain startups since the spring of 2020.

Despite the decline in venture investor activity, it is still significantly higher than in 2019-2020. At that time, the industry’s funding amounted to only $6.4 billion. Overall, venture capital funding for blockchain projects peaked in 2021 and has continued to decline since then. Investors’ priorities remain games, infrastructure and Web3, as well as NFT projects, analysts emphasize. The biggest investments take startups involved in projects aimed at expanding the infrastructure for digital currency transactions.
